Productive Jam of the Week: Fun - Some Nights

I am loving this song.  It make me want to conquer the world.  Or at least my to-do list.  Here we go Monday.  I am going to dominate you.

Just Breathe...And Then Read

First of all, I must say that I absolutely L-O-V-E teaching.  It makes my heart happy to get to know these kids and become their classroom "coach".  I love my commute (two stop signs & three turns which totals .3 miles).  I love that on some days I can grade papers, go to yoga, stop by the store, start dinner, and STILL be home all before I would start my commute for my last job.  I love the school, teachers, students, and overall moral there.

However...I also must admit that Student Teaching is hard!!!  Yes.  I knew it was going to be. (My Dearest E warned me many a times!!)  But here a few of my realizations:

-  I have 3 episodes of Gossip Girl, 3 of Pretty Little Liars, 3 of Modern Family, and even Desperate Housewives on our DVR.  Hell I am sure there is more, but that is the top that I saw when looking for a recorded Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to parent entertain Mr. T with while making dinner. Instead of my Must See TV....I am catching up on videos of Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show and the life story & legacy of Muhammad.  Anyone wanna get some popcorn and join me???

-  I spend just about every night reading up on the content.  I mean, who the heck knows the details of the Byzantine Empire, Mongol Rule, and Fallout Shelters just because??  Not this girl.

-  I just picked up a copy of The Art of Racing in the Rain.  It is the chosen book for our monthly book club.  I want to read it tonight (especially after slacking and not even starting the last book club book....Again sorry girls!!).  But honestly...Ivan the Terrible and Kievan Russia just scream "Read me!  Read me!! Read me NOW!!"

-  I do have to give myself props for learning 180 student names in the first two weeks.  Don't even ask me to tell you their last names, but I can at least call on them when they fall asleep during a video or give them a fist bump in the hallway.
via

The funny thing is...I may be putting in just as much or even more hours than I did at my previous job but I am still LOVING it.  I know some days will be an absolute failure, but I also know that each and every day will start and end with a smile.  :)

Ten Thoughts for the Weekend

1.  The Broncos beat the Steelers!!!!  What an amazing game!!  And with an 80-yard touch down pass from my Boy Tebow to DThomas!!! Unbelievable!!

2.  I might have shed a tear (or at least complained as much as possible) as I had to give up my ticket to today's game because I was sick.  Ladies and Gents...that means I was siiiiccckkk.  Not just a cough.  Because not to see my BFF Tebow in person and in action....heartbreaking!!  But at least I was warm in my Bronco Snuggie.

3.  I finished my first week as a student teacher and absolutely love it.  Still working on learning 170 student names and lesson planning, but I already know that it is all worth and where I am suppose to be.

4.  I am quite excited for this season's Bachelor with Geico Man Ben the Bach.  He is growing on me...as is the drama that ABC always provides.  Looks like we have some villains who like to skinny dip and continued drama with the blogger!  Fantastic.

5.  I also watched the latest Pretty Little Liars this weekend.  Seriously, it is not to late to watch this one with all the other 14 year-olds.  I am just pleased to know that one of my dearest neighbors is also a PLL fan and I am not the only 30 year-old that indulges in the flick.

6.  I keep having dreams this weekend about anchors falling on my head.  What does this mean???

7.  Every day this week I drove less than 3 minutes to work and LOVED it.  I even didn't buckle my seat belt for one of the trips and felt like such a rebel!!  (I know...I know.  Most accidents happen close to your house.  I promise it was my only time!).  Just what am I going to do with 2 hours of commuting back in my life???  Yoga? Perhaps cook a week day dinner for the first time in over a year!?  The possibilities are endless.

8.  I had much needed drinks with my Dearest E this weekend.  We just talked for hours about anything and everything.  We gave each other encouragement, asked questions, and basically reassured ourselves that we are effing fabulous.  Gator Guy doesn't understand that we can just sit on the couch, drink micro brews, and talk.  He and his Bromance Bro instead play darts.  For hours.  Now, that I do not get.

9.  Aside from being sick, I am giddy to go to work tomorrow.  Giddy.  It has been a long time since I have felt that!

10.  Holy Crap the Broncos won!!!!

My Final Day at the J-O-B

The final day has come!!!  I would like to think that the one giving the thumbs up is totally me!!  Very fitting. But either way my bags are packed and I'm begin my new adventure of being.....

A High School Teacher  :)
Bring on happy hour on this wonderful Friday.

2 Things - 2 Days

1.  Cry Baby Cutler and Kristin from the Hills are engaged....again.  Any bets on how long this one will last???  I predict they do not make it to say their "I Do's"...unless of course its a quicky in Vegas.

2.  Two more days at my current J-O-B.  A woohooo!!!

3 Things - 3 Days

1.  I am going to my first ever book club tonight.  I still need to finish about 75 pages (slacker) and plan to do so on the train this evening.  The book of choice:  Sarah's Key.  Very well written, however, just a little too intense and depressing at the moment.  I had to put the book down and take 10 minutes after each read to just come back to reality.

My suggestion for next month...something else a little more up beat or else I will pick for everyone to read this:

2.  Speaking of....obviously since I am quite the Tebow fan and soon to be his BFF, people often think of me when they read or see anything about him.  The best part...I don't ever need to research or look out for hot "Tebow" items, because everyone sends them to me right away.  Just yesterday, I was sent This Article by Sport Illustrated.  Seriously, if you are a fan, you will love it.  If you are a naysayer, just give it a try...it is another way to look at being a succesful quarterback.  Interesting.  And for more entertainment, I was sent these two videos. Both hilarious.

3.  THREE more days at my current J-O-B.  Three.

4 Things - 4 Days

1. Mr. T constantly asks, "Do you like that?" after saying or doing anything.  After taking a bite "Do you Like that?"  After rolling a car on Gator Guy's Back, "Do you Like that?"  It is sometimes cute...and yet at times sounds a little creepy.

2.  I should be doing homework or going to bed at this time.  Instead, I am facebooking and blogging.

3.  I asked Gator Guy to buy this song on iTunes for me today.  I don't know why, but I love it.  I feel like I should be doing something productive while listening to it like writing a ground breaking novel or running 10 miles.  Perhaps playing this song is the key to my homework...

4.  FOUR More days at my current job!!  Are you excited??  Because I sure am!!

5 Things - 5 Days

1.  I am still on a high about the Bronco's win today against the Chargers.  It reinforces that a close second to watching Jay Cutler fail is watching Philip Rivers do just the same.  My soon-to-be-BFF-Tebow did a fantastic job  (even when allowed to throw.)  I have to give some MAJOR props to that O-Line for letting the T-mister have an eternity in the pocket.  But either way, the win feels great and this season is looking up!!!

2.  Thanksgiving was amazing.  Family, Food, and Fun...what more could you ask for.  Plus - Gator Guy smoked a Turkey for round two of Thanksgiving on Saturday.  He was up at 6am to begin the process while I slept sound asleep.  Hands down the best turkey I have ever had.  Strong work Gator Guy. Strong Work.
 3.  I totally skipped Black Friday shopping this year.  Probably the first time in quite some time.  For some reason, it just doesn't feel like the Christmas season yet without the hustle and bustle.  Who went out in the wee hours of the night or morning??  Any hot purchases??  I'm a little sad I missed out on 40% off at Banana Republic.  Damn you Banana...why did you not invest in the newspaper advertisement!!  However, I plan on indulging in some Cyber Monday for sure.  Anyone know of any HOT DEALS??  I plan on checking out Sports Authority for gifts, Bath & Body Works for face wash, and Victoria's Secret...well because, Mama needs a new sexy bra.

4.  I did a sake bomb for my first time at my bestie's bday dinner.  Any "shot" that involves chugging beer is a win in my book.

5.  FIVE MORE DAYS at my current job.  Yes.  Five.  (Stay tuned for the next chapter in my life).

Back to Life...Back to Reality

This morning, I definitely need some extra motivation from my grande latte and the girls at Soul II Soul as they sing Back to Life to bring me back to business.  Gator Guy and I had an amazing time in Mexico eating lots of great food, lots of laughs with our neighbors, lots of drinks, and of course...lots of air guitar.  Pictures and video to come!!

High heels, Chipotle, and Firefighters

I'm not going to lie...one thing I love in the morning is getting in the elevator all by myself and then totally jammin out to whatever I am listening to.  I'm sure there is a security guard somewhere just saying, "Damn...white girl has got some moves!!".

But today my ride up after lunch was not so Jammin as it lasted about...20 freaking minutes.  Yes, I was totally stuck in the elevator.  But at least I wasn't alone.  Two other ladies, which seemed very nice, until one started to panic and press the alarm button.  We quickly calmed her and just pressed the call button.  The building attendants were able to get us up and moving about 15 minutes later.  I'm not sure what they had to do.  Perhaps they were waiting for me to dance again.

However, while in the elevator, I must admit that I had the total irrational thoughts as each minute went by:

1.  Thank goodness I'm not alone.
2.  Totally wish I didn't wear my super high heels today, I'm already sick of standing.
3.  Wish I had my iPhone with me, I could totally tweet it up or work on my Fantasy Draft.  Brady or Rogers?
4.  Huge thank goodness I'm not stuck in here with the creeper from this morning that asked what song I was listening to.  "Take a hint jackass...I have headphones in.  Do. Not. Talk. To. Me."
5.  Seriously awesome that I have Chipotle with me.
6.  Damn, I totally don't have a fork.
7.  Oh thank goodness the other two decided to sit.
8.  Holy crap, what if we are here for hours??
9.  OMG, I totally heard on the radio this morning about how a mom was in an elevator with her son that fell 15 stories and she broke both legs and had to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks...holy crap we are at the 30th floor....Was that a sign that I heard that?!?!?
10.   What if we start to fall, should I take off my super high heels so I can brace myself with proper balance?

And then just before the elevator started to move and doors opened....one lady said, "I wonder if the fire department will have to come."  The other lady totally took my line and said, "I get the hot one to carry me out!!!"  Damn.  She totally called dibs.

Thank goodness for the Denver Firefighter Calendar, since they did not have to greet us or carry us out.  Damn.  And sorry Gator Guy, after this train of thoughts I will so have to get my hands on a copy.

I Heart Coffee

Going up???

Because I totally just had a Dance Party in my work elevator jammin out to "Its Feels Good" by Tony! Toni! Tone!.  Yes, it was a party of ONE, but it's just one of those days and couldn't resist my moves.

Top 15 Light Rail Songs

I think there should be music on the Light Rail.  A DJ in fact.  And that DJ, should be me!  It would make everyone's morning just that much better if we all had some awesome jams to listen to.  But not too awesome that we would all get wired up for the day and then just crash before lunch.  Just some nices jams that let us relax and ponder what the day will be like (or day dream about the next Erin Andrews.)

My Top 15 Light Rail Songs:
  1. The Story - Brandi Carlile (I love this song for many reasons.  One, it is just a beautiful song.  But two, it was the very song that ESPN played during a story about Joe Paterno that brought on the pregnancy water works in an instant.  I heart you, Papa Joe)
  2. Glory Days - Bruce Sprinsteen (Just who isn't living or reminiscing their glory days?!?)
  3. We're Young and Beautiful - Carrie Underwood  (Gator Guy has a major crush on Carrie Underwood, as any man should.  And for some reason this is the song that I really believe I can sound just like her.  Only in my own world, but still...it makes me just want to Belt it out.)
  4. Hook - Blues Traveler (Every time we hear this song, Gator Guy just has to say, "Damn this is a good song."  So why now listen to the Damn Good Song first thing in the morning)
  5. It's Alright - Big Head Todd and the Monsters (Well because....it's alright)
  6. Down on the Corner - Creedence Clearwater Revival (Obviously any day is a good day when you can start it out with a little CCR)
  7. Vision of Love - Mariah Carey (Don't you just miss the old days when Mariah could rock the high notes?  Because I sure do)
  8. Suspicious Minds - Elvis (I love Elvis.  And this song is just enough Elvis to listen to that won't cause me to get up and shake my hips.)
  9. Man in the Mirror - Michael Jackson  (MJ totally had to listen to this first thing in the morning.)
  10. Kandi - One eskimO  (Can't you just picture it??  Stage just like MTV's Unplugged and I am  the one singing, "he called me babe"...and playing the tamborine)
  11. Bright Side of the Road - Van Morrison (Van is the Man.  Enough said)
  12. Raindrops from the Sun - Imani Coppola  (I imagine myself in a commerical for this one, perhaps drinking a light beer with butterflies and rainbows everywhere.)
  13. Ok, It's Alright With Me - Eric Hutchinson (Love this guy.  He makes me want to seize the day)
  14. Stuck in the Middle With You - Steelers Wheel  ("Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, Here I am."   I can't help but laugh at this one and think of the Dude and Gal sitting next to me.)
  15. Juciy - Better Than Ezra (Because you have to end the train ride with a good theme song for the day.  Today, this was it.  It is on my movie sound track as I strut up to the office.)

I Love Your Smile

Yesterday was one of those days. What seemed to be every few minutes, I just had to take a quick glance of the latest favorite pic of Mr. T.  I mean, just look at that smile!!  I love it  :)

These random days still surprise me.  What is about a certain day that I just can't get my mind off the little guy?  It reminds me of when I first went back to work from maternity leave.  Between missing Mr. T like crazy, calling daycare and grandparents to check in on him every hour, and then attempting to make pumping as a career mom work...those days were long and exhausting.

So yes, even as he's 16 months, it is days like these that I will be that mom that looks at my own blog over and over just to see more pics of my little man.  Because seriously....I just love that smile!

*Queue in the 90's music:

So Cheap My Dad Would Be Proud

Now I realize that all work parties and gift exchanges have the best intentions.   And I also realize that White Elephant Gift Exchanges are suppose to be funny.  They are suppose to have either good gifts, or gifts that give you a good laugh. However, I have decided to boycott mine this year.

There are two conclusions to this post:
  1. That gift exchanges are lame unless you all play in the same conference.
  2. I am so cheap my Dad would be proud.
So here I was, at Bed Bath Beyond, where you can really find anything...and Beyond.  The price limit for our White Elephant Gift Exchange was $30.  A perfect amount.  Enough to buy a DVD, and more importantly, enough to buy an As Seen on TV gift.  I debated at the ginormous store of Beyond for over 45 minutes.  Debating between The Bump It, Shame Wow, The Slap Chop, or Ped Egg.  And then I thought, what do I really want?  And what I wanted at that moment was to cuddle up and watch a movie.  (I must say that the Snuggie was not out in stores yet, or else that would have been the obvious choice.)  So instead, I picked out a really nice, red, plush, throw.  One that would accent any couch during this time of year.

And a pair of fuzzy socks to go with it....naturally.

I bring my as-if-martha-wrapped-it-herself package to the party with a jolly grin on my face.  I couldn't wait to see who would fight over my comfy goodness.  Gift after gift was opened.

And I quickly realized.  No one else spent 45 minutes looking at the Beyond and deciding between the Giant Remote or the Fruit Saver Bags.  No.  It became very clear...that everyone ran down to Starbucks, around the corner to the bakery, and in the freaking break room for a can of coke.  That's right.  I spent probably over $30 including tax when Coworker A, walked in the next room and got a free can of coke.  oh but wait, they did wrap it up in Xerox paper.

And so, as I watched cheap gift after cheap gift become unwrapped, I came to my first conclusion.
  1. That gift exchanges are lame unless you all play in the same conference.
We were defintely not all playing in the same conference.  I was playing in SEC, one with lots of thought, hard work, and a budget.  The others were playing in the Sun Belt conference.  That's right, you've never even heard of the Sun Belt conference.

But then I realized the power.  The power of chosing very last.  The power to pick anything I wanted.  My final pick you ask?  Not the Pink Pig wearing a Crown, not the can of coke....The really nice, red, plush, throw and fuzzy socks...naturally.  Because I wanted to cuddle up in my absolute softness.

However, that is when I came to my second conclusion:

    2.  I am so cheap my Dad would be proud.

And so, as I left work that day, I took my really nice, red, plush, throw and fuzzy socks...naturally

and the receipt of purchase, back the ginormous store of Beyond and got my 30 bucks plus tax fully refunded back...SUCKAS!!!
