Ice Ice Baby

Thanks to my new summers-off-schedule, I was able to head to a bar in the burbs Thursday night for a free concert by Vanilla Ice.  Yes...Vanilla Ice.  I started the night without a ticket to get upstairs and ended in the VIP section dancing on stage with The Ice. I'm pretty sure the other girls were all 18-21 but yes, me... the Mom with a 3-year-old rockin; my new white Old Navy beach pants was totally one of them.
See the girls??  Yeah totally not me.  But I was right there.
And see the creepy clown to the left of Ice??  There were two of them (both creepy as hell), and they splashed bottles of water on everyone.   Oh yes, this is totally my normal Thursday night.
I honestly don't know any of his other songs besides Ice Ice Baby, and I'm sure he knew that was the general consensus since that song lasted at least 10 minutes.  But I danced my little heart out. I was quite proud to represent my dorky dance moves and I had both V. Ice and some of the crowd doing one of my favorites.  You know...the cat eyes one from Pulp Fiction.  Yes, he totally did it and probably said to himself, WTF?!?!?
FYI this dance move is called the Batusi from the old school Batman.  I know...your life is totally complete now.
I also had to add in a few surfer moves on stage and then back on the dance floor.  It only makes sense in my mind, but yes, I look just about like this girl surfin' it out on the floor.  And for your future par-tay nights- if you are at a crowded dance floor it is by far the best way to give your group some space and keep the creepers off.  That or I totally smelled.  Either one, we had plenty of room to shake our groove thang.

Nancy and Lindsey

So three things happen when my Dearest E and I have extend our Friday happy hour outside of the home.

1.  We venture over to a very dark and sometimes depressing dive bar just near our house.  We know that this bar is always dead and yet it always seems like a good idea.

2.  We spend a lot of singles on the juke box playing songs like Whiney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Bell Biv DeVoe.  We are always convinced that everyone else will love our brilliant music selection.  And in fact they do.  Everyone was jammin it out. Except for the old guy asking for Pearl Jam.  Pearl Jam....seriously??  Am I wearing a flannel shirt and doc martins??  No.  I stopped that outfit the day My So Called Life was cancelled.

3.  We suddenly call ourselves Nancy and Lindsey.  I'm not sure where the names came from.  I think Linds always had that in her back pocket, and mine was just recently created.  But I am beginning to embrace the new alter ego.

We also tend to text our husbands.  Well....actually Linds always texts Gator Guy to let him know our plan and that we are going to church.  Whatever.  It's pretty funny to us at least at the moment.

Red Nails Make Me Fancy

My Dearest E and I got manicures today. This is the first time ever I have painted my nails a color.  Seriously.  How sad is that??  The only other times I have done anything was back in the day with fake french tip nails for prom and my wedding day. Quite sad for a woman my age, huh?

I think I look fancy.

And I think even red nails can make my beer look fancy too!  Cheers.

Yogis Know Best

Dear Twenties,

It is quite sad to say goodbye to you, but I must say that I feel pretty damn good about what we have accomplished during our time together.  First and foremost, we made it through college.  And don't let anyone judge us on the fact that it took 5 years.  Because we all know we have that semester in Australia and ridiculously cheap Fort Collins drinks to blame for that.  We also made it through multiple knee injuries, surgeries, and know that the best way to be on crutches and not give up your beer is to attach a red solo cup to one crutch (seriously....it is brilliant).  Twenties, we river danced on top of bars, broke records on the mechanical bull, and learned to perfect the air guitar.

But by far the best years together occurred after those crazy college days and began with the "I Do" to Gator Guy.  I know, it's cheesy, but it's the simple truth.  With you, we bought a house and extended our family with the most perfect little boy ever!!!  Twenties, you showed that the most important thing in life is family and the loved ones around us.  And even the burbs have the best Par-Tay on a Friday night with neighbors, dominos pizza, and drinks.  You either extended my childhood friendships or introduced me to the most amazing girlfriends that I know will be in my life forever.  You gave me the confidence to know that I can run marathons, be a working Mom, work out enough to still indulge in that IPA, and take a risk with a passionate career change to begin teaching.

So thank you Twenties.  I do believe our time together was well worth it and I hope you feel as I do that we are parting ways on good terms.  I don't leave with any regrets because...you and I....We loved and we lived.

xoxo,

Kat

Dear Thirties,

We have started our time together on the right foot by watching Clueless (Yes thank you morning TV for showing that Gem), taking a kick-my-ass yoga sculpt class, dancin it out to Tony Toni Tone and other awesome 90s music, a margarita before noon, some shopping, and now a tall IPA as I wait for Gator Guy to come home for dinner.

Thirties - I must say that there are stories that intimidate me.   But honestly, I think we are going to be great together.

However, I must ask....Please be nice.  I hear that our hangovers together will suck big time.  So remember that this will never prohibit me from an IPA during the game or glass of wine with the girls.  So just please be nice.

xoxo,

Kat

5 Things - 5 Days

1.  I am still on a high about the Bronco's win today against the Chargers.  It reinforces that a close second to watching Jay Cutler fail is watching Philip Rivers do just the same.  My soon-to-be-BFF-Tebow did a fantastic job  (even when allowed to throw.)  I have to give some MAJOR props to that O-Line for letting the T-mister have an eternity in the pocket.  But either way, the win feels great and this season is looking up!!!

2.  Thanksgiving was amazing.  Family, Food, and Fun...what more could you ask for.  Plus - Gator Guy smoked a Turkey for round two of Thanksgiving on Saturday.  He was up at 6am to begin the process while I slept sound asleep.  Hands down the best turkey I have ever had.  Strong work Gator Guy. Strong Work.
 3.  I totally skipped Black Friday shopping this year.  Probably the first time in quite some time.  For some reason, it just doesn't feel like the Christmas season yet without the hustle and bustle.  Who went out in the wee hours of the night or morning??  Any hot purchases??  I'm a little sad I missed out on 40% off at Banana Republic.  Damn you Banana...why did you not invest in the newspaper advertisement!!  However, I plan on indulging in some Cyber Monday for sure.  Anyone know of any HOT DEALS??  I plan on checking out Sports Authority for gifts, Bath & Body Works for face wash, and Victoria's Secret...well because, Mama needs a new sexy bra.

4.  I did a sake bomb for my first time at my bestie's bday dinner.  Any "shot" that involves chugging beer is a win in my book.

5.  FIVE MORE DAYS at my current job.  Yes.  Five.  (Stay tuned for the next chapter in my life).

Santa Clause and the Jukebox

After a Bronco loss but a huge Tebow gain, we headed to a local bar with neighbors.  (Clearly Gator Guy was the D.D.)  I thought of this GRAND ol idea to play Christmas music on the juke box and then leave before it played.  Problem....we didn't leave before it played.

I snuck into the bathroom and tried to remain in my porcelain hide out as long as I could.  But as I sat there, Elvis Presley began to sing here comes Santa Clause and then Andy William belted out It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.   The chatter grew louder outside my protected stall and I  finally decided to to come out to only find everyone in the bar asking me....REALLY??  SERIOUSLY??  Did you seriously just play effing Christmas music??  They totally knew it was me.  I was totally busted.

I don't think I am allowed back.  And definitely not allowed any more free credits on that jukebox.

My Love for the Air Guitar

I have a Love for many things.  My boys.  Microbrews.  My JamsTebow.  The Bach.  My BFFs.  Yoga & Running. Sports Talk Radio. (all in no particular order).

But added to that list...is the Air Guitar.  Yes, this is very true.  I just can't help myself when I hear those cords perfectly in tune with a set of drums and a belting chorus line.  My left hand cranks out and my right sets just on my torso...and then...the magic begins.  I do not know how to play a single note on a real guitar, nor I have ever even played Guitar Hero.  But I can promise you one thing. I. Can. Freaking. Rock. The. Air. Guitar.

And so, leave it to a trip last week in Mexico to present to us...The perfect combination:
  1. Bloody caesar cocktails
  2. Fantastic friends
  3. Mexican band singing ACDC without speaking a lick of English
  4. A 30th birthday celebration for my dear M.
  5. Cerveza
  6. Gator Guy behind the camera

And you get this fantastic duo of Air Guitar meets Air Drums

Helmets are Required for Bachelorette Parties

I have a new requirement.  I shall now wear a helmet to any participating bachelorette party or crazy night out.

SUPPORTING EVIDENCE TO THIS NEW REQUIREMENT
Bachelorette Party #1...few years ago
Was sitting in a booth, enjoying my beer when all of a sudden a large picture fell off the wall and onto my head.  Concussion.  (Pic is not from that featured night, but still is the bride)

Bachelorette Party #2...This last Saturday
Was sitting on a roof top bar, enjoying my beer (before the Timmy concert...more on that to come), when all of a sudden a huge gust of wind came and one of the table umbrellas went flying and hit me right above the temple.  Concussion.  Thank goodness for the pocket umbrella, or else I would have melted from the rain.

Incident #3...Not a Bach Party...but accompanied by the Bachelorette #2.
Riding the mechanical bull...beat the bar women's record and then knocked out unconscious.  Concussion. Swollen face.  Could not chew food for a week.

LESSONS LEARNED....
1. While in Booze Hound mood....I need to wear a helmet.
2.  I still love that bull.

Bach Drinking Game:

Determined to make you just as drunk as if you were still in college.

THE RULES:

Drink EVERY time that Ashley says Bentley's name.  Yes, I know, this is quite the task.  So if needed, please alternate with your beverage of choice and water.  Best of luck.

That's What Friends Are For

My Dearest E,

Our friendship is simply amazing. You really know me so well and go out of your way to make me smile.  And more importantly, I appreciate the fact that you do not judge me for drinking a ridiculous amount of microbrew on Saturday night or saying things like e-coin jumping. Because...well, you were right there with me.

And more importantly, I will continue to daydream about how you brought me my very own IPA microbrew to the Track last night as my post run refresher. I think we need to make this a tradition.

xoxo,
Kat

Fan of The Fan

News Flash -- I am kind of a sports fan.  (As I'm sure most of you are all rolling your eyes or saying "duh" at this very moment).  I am also a huge sports talk radio fan.   And so, when I heard that 104.3 The Fan was going to be out just a block from my office, I knew I had to stop by and say hi.  Even better, was the fact that this was on St Patrick's Day.  You know, the beautiful day in Denver with Green, Hoops, & Sunshine.  So after buying my green beer all by myself at the Oh-So-Crowded Tilted Kilt, I headed over to The Fan table to say hi.
Four Hours Later....I was with my new BFF, DMac (the host of The Drive) heading to the second half of the Gonzaga vs St John's first round game at the Pepsi Center.  Quite the experience I must say myself.  Not only sitting in the 3rd row of the game, but just having a chance to hang out with one of the guys that I listen to almost every day.

As the night went on, we covered just about every subject manageable:  Tebow, Marathon Training, Hurricane McDaniel's Departure, Gator Guy, My New Love for Yoga, College hoops, The Future of the Broncos, Mr. T, Bracketology,  Tebow's Determination, Hiking a 14er, My Hatred for Cutler, My Passion for the Broncos, My Desire to be Erin Andrews, My love for Tebow, Football, My Lack of Baseball Knowledge....Oh yeah, and Tebow

Green, Hoops, & Sunshine

Yesterday was filled with excitement in Downtown Denver.  You could just Feel It!!  The weather was filled with beautiful sunshine, not a cloud in the sky and 74 spectacular degrees.  Folks are getting pumped up for Today's St. Patrick's Day and perhaps have been celebrating since last weekend.  And on top of that March Madness begins today.  People are walking around with brackets, highlighters,  and are pumped for the excitement that today brings.  Denver is hosting the first two rounds and so the buzz just grows as everyone walks around in their school gear and pride.    I even have to give a shout out to my friend Anne, who "checked in" on facebook at 4AM for Kegs & Eggs this morning!  Yikes.  Made my plans to have a beer at lunch seem quite small!  Slainte Anne!!!  Drink a Green One for me!!

I love spring in Denver.  And I absolutely love a day like today.  I leave you with some Irish jams from one of my favorite movies:  (Thanks Micah for posting it the other day!!)

Just What the Dr. Ordered

I am not a huge fan of soda pop. Very very rarely drink it.  Gave it up in high school for track, and never really got back into it.  However, there is one occasion where it is an absolute must.

After too many of these:

The next day I must have at least two of these.
Thanks DP.

And my new purse shall be....

This one.  Especially on a day like today.  Cheers Ladies!!
