Where is My Mind

My Dearest E played this song in her yoga class this week.  I am in LOVE with it.  It is my new "Must Stop, Breathe, and Relax" song.  Some day when I decide to actually play the piano again, this is a Must Learn!!  Thanks E  ;)

Jam of the Week: Imagine Dragons - It's Time

I am obsessed with "It's Time" by Imagine Dragons.  Obsessed.  Luckily I can play it for each passing period and only my neighbors will get sick of it.

First Day of School

I am officially a teacher.  And it feels damn good.

And thanks to my dearest e, I plan to read this quote to my class as we all start a new year full of excitement, To-Do lists, and anxiety!!

“Be careful what you water your dreams with. Water them with worry and fear and you will produce weeds that choke the life from your dream. Water them with optimism and solutions and you will cultivate success. Always be on the lookout for ways to turn a problem into an opportunity for success. Always be on the lookout for ways to nurture your dream.”
- Lao Tzu

This is also my theme song tomorrow.  So don't worry.... It's always a good time.

Friday Jam: Circles

Thank B.o.B. for this awesome jam that I just can't get out of my head.  Perfect to take to the pool today!!!   Happy Friday!!!

Watch Out George Straight...

George Straight has got some competition if I must say myself.  Here's Mr. T singing "I Cross My Heart".  It is the same song that I sing to him before bed.

I even hung part of the lyrics on his wall before he was born, so I suppose it is natural that this song is his debut.  Enjoy.

GAFT: Round 2

GAFT continues to overpower us as of late.  And I wish there was a magic potion or something to relieve it.  I suppose if there was, we would have a million kids and no use for Mama Happy Hour.

This week has been hard.  Perhaps we are STILL recovering from our awesome trip to Disneyland (post to come), or perhaps it is just the GAFT (God Awful Fucking Three's).  Either way, it is difficult.

How are parents suppose to cope??  What solutions actually work???

We have tried the following:
1.  Firm rules
2.  Timeout
3.  Distractions
4.  Taking away beloved toys
5.  Bribery
6.  Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
7.  Cry it out
8.  Cars2
9.  Music
10.  Back rubs
11.  Food
12.  Water break

I am sure some of the expert parents in the world laugh at my list and see that the main thing lacking is consistency.  Whatever.  Screw you expert parents, because this shit can be hard.

What eventually calmed down the most recent episode of GAFT was some Magic Music.  I explained to Mr. T that when he was a baby, I would play for him two very special songs and it would calm him down.  I have no idea how he heard me with all that screaming, but he was intrigued and wanted to hear the tunes.  So I played a remake of Bridge Over Troubled Waters by Quincy Coleman and Sweet Sweet Baby by Michelle Featherstone.  Worked like a charm....at least this time.  And I will store the Magic Music in my GAFT back pocket.

Jam of the Week: Set Me Free

I heard this one a week or so ago at yoga and just L-O-V-E it.  I think it is "jammy".  The kind of jam I can dance around to when no one is around and pretend that I am part of the video singing my heart out.  And yes...this really does happen.  In fact, I'm a little surprised that I haven't been asked to be a background dancer or perhaps a tamborine or cow bell girl.   I suppose it is my fault for not sending in my audition videos because I promise you, some of the best concerts in town are at Kat & Gator Guy's Casa... when no one is watching!!

Friday Jam - Both of Us

I am totally diggin this one by B.o.B. and Taylor Swift.  Yes...I am sure some Bob fans are totally hating the fact that he partnered with the hot country blonde, but I am lovin it.  Happy Friday!!!

Some QB That I Used to Know

Even though my still-wishing-to-be-my-BFF is no longer in Denver, I still love seeing jokes, news, and parodies about him.  I'm still hoping that maybe Tebow just needs to come back to the Mile High City for some fresh Mt air and maybe even hit up our neighborhood pool.  Too much??  I know.  But a girl can daydream.

Btw....Gator Guy hates this original song.  And has Mr. T trained to recognize that it is "the bad song".  I like it.  And I especially love this viral video of these two kiddos.

Love Man

I'm quite random when it comes to my song downloads.  My most recent iTunes purchase, is Otis Redding - Love Man.  This is of course from Dirty Dancing.

You know...right after she carries in the watermelon and its time for some dir-tay dancing.

Ps....i want this shirt.

But this is the kind of song that really makes it feel like summer.  It makes me was to get in this.

And wish I was a 1960's surfer girl like this.

Or this is just how I cruise around on my board like this.
Either way, summer is here and I am lovin it!!

Me. My Shoes. And the Track.

This morning I went for a run in my brand new running shoes.

They feel like I am running on clouds.

I listened to Perpetuum Mobile by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra.  I felt like I should be in a running commercial.

Just me.  My Shoes.  And the Track.  Refreshing.

Nancy and Lindsey

So three things happen when my Dearest E and I have extend our Friday happy hour outside of the home.

1.  We venture over to a very dark and sometimes depressing dive bar just near our house.  We know that this bar is always dead and yet it always seems like a good idea.

2.  We spend a lot of singles on the juke box playing songs like Whiney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Bell Biv DeVoe.  We are always convinced that everyone else will love our brilliant music selection.  And in fact they do.  Everyone was jammin it out. Except for the old guy asking for Pearl Jam.  Pearl Jam....seriously??  Am I wearing a flannel shirt and doc martins??  No.  I stopped that outfit the day My So Called Life was cancelled.

3.  We suddenly call ourselves Nancy and Lindsey.  I'm not sure where the names came from.  I think Linds always had that in her back pocket, and mine was just recently created.  But I am beginning to embrace the new alter ego.

We also tend to text our husbands.  Well....actually Linds always texts Gator Guy to let him know our plan and that we are going to church.  Whatever.  It's pretty funny to us at least at the moment.

Productive Jam of the Week: Fun - Some Nights

I am loving this song.  It make me want to conquer the world.  Or at least my to-do list.  Here we go Monday.  I am going to dominate you.

Obsessed Jam of the Week: April Smith - Colors

I absolutely love that my alarm clock will play a song to wake me up rather than an annoying buzz, beep, or birds.  (Yes...I once had an alarm that would tweets little birds.  Really cute at first until it got loud enough that they were then squawking!!)

For the past week, April Smith's - Colors has been my Must Have choice to wake me up, get me movin', and wish me off to a fabulous day.  Thanks to One Tree Hill (and even a Lowes commercial) for showing me this Gem.

I Guess I Love Miley

The other day as I was getting ready, I heard this classic country-folk song.  It was simple.  It was sweet.  It was a remake of a Bob Dylan masterpiece.  And I quickly fell in love with it.  I grabbed my phone, using one of the song identifier apps and tried to find out who it was.  Nothing. No results.

As I watched the video, I knew the girl looked familiar, but I just couldn't put it all together.  And then finally i saw the credits....Miley Cyrus.  Miley Cyrus???  Seriously?  Damn girl....you all grown up.  And I admit that this is a beautiful song.  If this is her knew sound...then I am definitely a big fan.  So keep it up Miley.

Obsessed Jam: Jason Mraz - I Won't Give Up

via
I am officially obsessed with this Jam.  I listen to it on while I'm grading papers, working out, on a run, getting ready in the morning, and if I still had to take the lightrail or commute for an hour, I would for sure listen then.  It is just that good.  It is a song that gets me.  So Thank Jason....your Jam is amazing!

OTH and a New Country Jam

First of all...anyone else watch One Tree Hill?  I just watched this season's opener and it is intense!!  I'm a little confused as to when we will see all the flash forward scenes shown at the beginning.  Snip its of fights, deaths, and arrests....so intense and typical OTH craziness that I Oh-So-Love. So thanks WB...I may be 30, but I still love your flicks.

And what was even more surprising was that "Alex"on the show really does sing.  Her new single featured on the episode is quite catchy especially for us Country-Lovin-Girls.  Even after watching the video, I still have to convince myself that this is not just the actress lip syncing and that it is really her.  Diggin the Jam Jana.  Well Done.

Cover Jam of the Week: Dancing With Myself

In my random search this weekend, I came across this Gem of a Song:  Nouvelle Vague - Dancing With Myself.  I would like to add it to my category of "Songs-that-you-dance-like-no-one-is-watching-in-your-underwear-while-singing-into-your-brush-as-it-is-clearly-a-microphone".

And don't worry my Dearest E...this one is on your playlist to be delivered this weekend.  I promise  ;)

Be Here Now

This morning in yoga, it was all about rinsing out the past, accepting the future and to just Be Here Now.  Be here now...that is a difficult concept for me.  As I'm sure most of us may struggle with it, my mind runs a million miles per hour and I have a hard time slowing it down to just Be Here Now.  I know I can even take in a lesson from Mr. T who does not care at all about what happened yesterday or where we are going tomorrow.  He is always in the moment.  Always here now.

I once read the book "The Power of Now" by Eckhard Tolle.  It is challenge for me to leave the past behind and extremely difficult not to obsessively plan the future.  I remember the book being interesting and eye opening at times.  So perhaps it is time to bring that book out again in this transitional part of my life and with a little yoga flow I will be ready to rock 2012.
OK Yes....2012 is going to ROCK.  I begin Tuesday as a student teacher and I am beyond excited.  Holy Cow....My dreams to work with my passion is finally here!!!

So enjoy a little Charles Brown jam with me and here is to Bringing in a Brand New Year!

Calming Jam of the Week: This Life by Ryan Huston

In a week where everyone is pumped up for the New Year and celebrations, I'm just a little off and have been in a bit of a funk the last couple of days.  Just not my normal self...not really "here"... not having my normal mojo.  But one thing that just changes it all is these two boys coming home with tulips (yes, beautiful tulips even in the middle of winter) and a loving card from my Gator Guy.  They truly are everything to me.  And the Calming Jam of the week by Ryan Huston says it all:

I love you more than you will ever know,
How sweet this life, I'll never let you go.
Nothing compares to holding on to you,
I love you more, this I confess to you.
